Faculty Peer Mentoring Program

The Faculty Peer Mentoring Program is a cross-disciplinary, one-to-one faculty mentoring program sponsored and coordinated by the Office of the Provost. The program provides a formal opportunity for early career tenure- line faculty members to receive advice and guidance from a tenured faculty member from outside their own department.

The goals of the Faculty Peer Mentoring Program are to orient early career faculty members to the VCU academic community and to assist them in successfully launching their academic careers at VCU. The program seeks to support early career faculty members, enabling them to succeed and thrive in the academy as both scholars and educators.

Applications for the 2019-20 cohort are due at 5 p.m. on September 16, 2019. Learn more and apply below:

Who can apply to be a mentee or mentor in the Faculty Peer Mentoring Program?

Early career tenure-line faculty members are encouraged to apply as mentees. Tenured faculty members are encouraged to apply to be mentors.

Why are mentees paired with mentors from outside their own departments?

Cross department mentee-mentor matches offer early career faculty members a confidential space in which to speak candidly with a mentor who is not directly involved with their tenure review process.

What about other mentoring opportunities at the university and within the community?

The Faculty Peer Mentoring Program complements departmental and group mentoring opportunities that exist across the university. We encourage early career faculty members to take advantage of multiple forms of mentoring and to form mentoring relationships both inside and outside of the university. Learn about more resources for VCU faculty members on the Faculty Resources page

Where can I learn more about the VCU Peer Mentoring Program?

The Guidebook for Participants and End of Year Report are available on VCU Scholars Compass. These resources detail mentoring information and best practices, previous participants, and data collected via participant feedback.

Who can I contact for more information or with questions?
