We are almost to the mid-semester point and many opportunities and announcements have been made this week to our VCU community. Please see below for a snapshot of these headlines. 

Call for Nominations - 2018 PACME Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Presidential Awards for Community Multicultural Enrichment (PACME) that will be presented on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., in the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballrooms. Four separate awards are given to recognize a student or student organization (includes postdoctoral fellows), a faculty member (includes training and research faculty), a classified or hourly staff member (includes university and academic professionals), and an administrator, for their outstanding service.

VCU Libraries receives Excellence in Academic Libraries Award

VCU Libraries is one of three recipients of the 2018 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award. This annual award recognizes staff at college, university and community college libraries for providing exemplary programs, resources and services.

Continued opportunities for faculty

The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) will present "Preparing Your Teaching Portfolio for Promotion, Tenure and Annual Review: Options and Opportunities" on Wed., Feb. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. This session will help attendees identify resources, approaches and strategies for building a teaching portfolio that captures their unique contributions to students and the fields in which they work. Join the Office of Faculty Affairs for "Secrets to Productivity for Early Career Faculty Members." This workshop, facilitated by Scott Gronert, Ph.D., associate dean of research, College of Humanities and Sciences and professor, Department of Chemistry, is open to all faculty members. Lunch will be provided. Service details for Grace E. Harris, Ph.D. 

Grace E. Harris, Ph.D., leader and transformational figure in the history of VCU, passed away on Monday, Feb. 12. Details for her service are listed below. 

Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Richmond, VA 23222 where viewing will be held on Friday, February 23 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Remains will rest in The Richmond Convention Center, 403 N. Third Street on Saturday, February 24, 2018 after 9 a.m. where a Delta Sigma Theta Omega Omega Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Services of Celebration at 11 a.m. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
