Retired Faculty Council
Join us, renew friendships and stay in touch with Virginia Commonwealth University.
The Retired Faculty Council held its inaugural meeting on Dec. 1, 1993, with 46 charter members. The council provides a means for retired faculty to stay in touch with the university and to remain involved with university affairs. It also serves as a way of gathering and disseminating information of interest to retirees and brings together long-time colleagues for stimulating events.
The group, which is open to all retired faculty members, meets several times a year in October, February and April. Meetings are held on both campuses and include time for conversation and refreshments. Past programs have included building tours, talks with VCU's president and professors, VCU Basketball games, and cultural events. Please contact Jenn Arce or one of the officers if you have questions concerning the Retired Faculty Council.

Retired faculty members need a retired faculty ID to receive most benefits. If you did not receive a picture ID at the time of retirement, please contact the VCUCard office at (804) 827-2273 on the Monroe Park Campus or (804) 628-2273 on the MCV Campus; or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org for information on obtaining one.
In order to receive a VCUCard, retired faculty must be entered into the Non-Employee Affiliate Database, which must be completed by the department from which faculty retired. This entry must be updated annually.
- Monroe Park Campus: Technology Administration Building, 701 West Broad Street Lobby, (804) 827-CARD
- MCV Campus: Sanger Hall, 1101 East Marshall Street, Room B1-018, (804) 628-CARD
Barnes & Noble has taken over management of the bookstores on both campuses. The contact number for the Monroe Park Campus is (804) 828-1678; on the MCV Campus, it is (804) 828-0336.
Retired faculty members may keep their VCU e-mail accounts as long as they remain in a university relationship and are listed in an official university database (HRS, Banner or the Affiliate databases). Many retired faculty continue to receive university services, as emeriti faculty or in some other capacity, as long as they are in the appropriate database. Interested retirees should check with their departments and request inclusion in the Affiliate database, which must be updated annually by the department.
Once faculty members are no longer active in the database, their e-mail accounts will be terminated, following two weeks' notice.
Human Resources has compiled a booklet of discount offers that are available to retired faculty with a VCUCard. For more information, call (804) 828-1688 or access the information online.

Retired faculty members who had been VCU parking subscribers for 10 years or more may obtain a parking permit free of charge by presenting a retired faculty ID to the parking office on either campus and completing an application for a retired faculty permit.
An emeritus permit for emeritus faculty who had been VCU parking subscribers for 10 years or more may be requested by presenting documentation of that status to the parking office. A retired faculty permit and an emeritus permit carry the same privileges.
The permit allows parking on the Monroe Park Campus in the West Broad St. Deck, West Main St. Deck, West Cary St. Deck, and Jefferson St. Deck. On the MCV Campus, the permit allows parking in the 8th St. Deck and N Deck.
Renewal notices will be sent every year, usually in September. You will be able to renew online. You may be notified of when to renew by e-mail if you have provided an e-mail address on your application. It is necessary to renew parking permits.
